Sleep Apnea CPAP Device - FINALIST: MDEA®
Sleep Apnea CPAP Device. Working with Respironic’s engineering, manufacturing and marketing groups, WhiteLight Design developed this sleep apnea device for personal night time use. Connected to a nasal mask, it is used to reduce snoring and sleep interruption. The functional constraints of incorporating a handle, hose connection, inlet filter, air ducting and noise reduction baffling into a two piece, injection molded housing, challenged us in developing this solution. With the new Tranquility Quest ® design, the Client experienced a significant increase in CPAP sales, representing a major portion of their company CPAP sales volume.

The case study is an example Client project highlighting the work delivered. From pencil thumbnail sketches to 3D CAD color renderings the design process is about visualizing the results or product design to meet the physical requirements. Industrial design embraces semantics and keep it simple with the use of figure ground presentations, 3D CAD, product engineering and rapid prototyping. The 3D CAD – shop drawings with all the dimensions needed is the key to working from paper to fully assembled prototype. The team has invested in a rapid printed prototype shop to complement the full prototype shop.
